The arrival of summer on Irk resulted in one of the biggest celebrations within the entire culture. And Red, no matter how hard he tried, couldn't fathom why.
Irk's summers were desiccated, sweltering, and lengthy. The little water the planet managed to retain during the cooler months of the year disappeared from existence during the summer, which sent the entire planet on a track of annual drought. The temperature never dipped below 100 degrees, which made being outside in the summer months somewhat of a rather spectacular experience. Dust storms and fires swept through the countryside, leaving the planet smokey, blacked and even more dry than it had been to begin with.
However, most Irkens were lucky enough to avoid the heat and aridness.
